Rivalry notes
IPL Fantasy is just about picking the best team of players you can within a budget and scoring points based on how they perform in their matches.
Building Your Team
You start with a budget of 100 credits to build your squad. Better players cost more, so you’ll need to balance your team rather than just picking your favourites.
Your team must include:
At least 1 wicketkeeper
At least 3 batters
At least 2 all-rounders
At least 3 bowlers
The last 2 players can be whatever role you like.
How Points Work
Players earn fantasy points based on their performances. For example, 1 point per run, 25 points for a wicket and many, many more ways to get points. But to be completely honest you don't need to remember these, I will make a post about the exact point system if you'd like to read it once anyway. Just remember when picking bowlers you can only get a maximum of 6 points from a super efficient bowler who takes no wickets. A bowler who get hit for 70 runs but takes 2 wickets is far better in fantasy. Batters however are more rewarded for being aggressive. But whether you pick the consistent 30-40 runs player or 70 or 0 runs player is up to you. The percent of people who have picked a person is shown so that can be a handy guide if you're unsure about a choice.
Picking your Captains and Vice-Captains is one of the most important parts of the game.
Your captain scores 2x points and your vice-captain scores 1.5x points.
Getting this right can completely change how your match goes as these decisions could have 50-100 point effects if you're unlucky/lucky. A good captain pick can be the differential between you and everyone else.
You can make transfers between matches to bring in new players.
There are usually around 2.5 to 3.5 transfers available per game on average, although the exact number varies each season especially as a dozen extra matches were added. Managing these transfers well is just as important as picking your starting team.
There are about 7 boosters you have for the whole season. You can apply one per game and short description is included for each one on the website. These can be powerful differentials but I'll go in more depth later.
That’s all you need to get started. And if you actually make the transfer and Cap/VC change every single game for the whole season you'll already be ahead of 80% of players regardless of your player choices. It's really in IPL fantasy that consistency is key but don't beat yourself up if something arises and you miss a game or two, it happens to us all.
So far I've covered just what you need to make a team for a match. But the truth is to make it to the upper tiers you need to plan ahead to optimise your team for the whole season.
In the next post, we’ll go into the three key tactics of the more advanced side of the game:
How to use boosters properly. How to manage transfers over the full season. And how to plan ahead for multiple matches
Thanks for reading and I hope I'll see you again!
