Rivalry notes
If you're new to IPL Fantasy or the concept of fantasy this could be overwhelming. I still recommend reading it but don't worry about every little thing just try your best. Everyone with experience... Take notes (or just save this page). Once you understand the basics, these are the three areas that will have the biggest impact on your season:
Boosters. Transfer efficiency. Planning ahead.
Mastering these is what separates average teams from top performers. Also had to rewrite parts because in the middle of writing this the game opened.
1. Boosters
Boosters can completely change your season if used well. Timing matters just as much as the players you pick. There is always some luck involved, but good planning gives you the best chance at maximising its potential.
First let's just go over the available boosters:
3x Captain. Your captain earns 3x points instead of 2x. Best used when a player is in strong form, so wait till the second half of the season. If it’s a batter, ideally pick someone batting first so they get full opportunity. Ideally you’d want a good all rounder as it’s a bit of a back up if they fail with either skill, the other could save you but it’s not a rule by any means. But to be honest, maybe you'll get an extra 50-100 points if lucky, so it’s not a very significant booster. So you can just use it when the moment feels right. And a new change was that you get two of these.
2x Power (Most important). Your entire team scores double points. This is the biggest booster in the game by far and is genuinely a make or break along with…
Indian Warriors. All Indian players score 2x. Of course it goes without saying you should pick a game with lots of talented Indians for this one which you’ll have a better idea of in the second half of the season, when form is clearer and you can build a strong (Indian-heavy for IW booster) team.
You want all 11 players to be playing in that match for sure and more than the other boosters the type of match matters. You want to target high-scoring grounds like Chinnaswamy, Hyderabad or Eden Gardens while also picking batting heavy teams. Hard to say right now but SRH, LSG and GT appear to have weaker bowling line ups so keep an eye out for their games. Outside of that it’s not too complicated just make the best possible team or for IW make the best possible team of Indians you can. And a new change was that you get two of each of these boosters too so rather than waiting till the second half maybe just want until after the first third so you still have good match ups for all your boosters.
Wildcard. Unlimited transfers within the 100 credit budget. This is a really interesting one but I’ve found it's best used to reset your team after a big round like a 2x Power or IW. This means rather than having to use many transfers the next few games it saves you the hassle and resets it. This can only be used once but we now have 4 2x Power and IW boosters so picking a good game to use it is very important.
Foreign Stars. All overseas players score 2x. You’d imagine this should’ve been mentioned with IW and 2x with how strong it can be, however your fantasy team has a cap of 4 overseas players meaning you don’t have to plan around it. Just use it once you have an idea of who’s in form and pick a match up with great overseas talent. And you get two FS boosts too.
Free Hit. Unlimited transfers and no budget restriction, but your team resets afterwards. Great for targeting high-scoring games, especially on flat pitches or small grounds. As it resets this game is very high scoring for points but doesn’t need to be planned around. Pick a big game like RCB vs SRH (for example! Don’t actually do the first game of the season) and let it rip. But remember you only get one of these.
For all of these boosters you can always comment with questions and I can try to advise you on what picks to make. And I have to note boosters and their names can change slightly each season, so always double check with me once when the game opens. On to the next, most confusing strategy…
2. Transfer Efficiency
Managing transfers properly over the full season is crucial. It doesn’t matter if you’re the top player after one game if you run out of transfers with 20 matches left. A good way to think about it is your transfers per match across the group stage. In this season it’s 2.32 transfers per game on average which is the same as last season. More transfers are given just for the playoffs and group stage transfers don’t carry over to playoffs.
The goal is to use transfers consistently across the season. Avoid spending too many early. But also avoid saving too many for the end. I’ll explain why.
At the start of the season we obviously have less confidence in how players and teams will be performing. So transfers used early are less certain to score points than later on. But in each match take SRH vs RCB for example. The first picks are obvious. Virat Kohli, Ishan Kishan or Heinrich Klaasen. However, what about the 4th and the 5th? Abhishek could score really well. Jacob Bethell is young but in form. My point is we can’t be as confident. So inherently the first transfer spent each match will get more points on average over the whole season than the next and the next. Each transfer used in a single game becomes less valuable and so if you leave too many late it quickly cancels out the benefit of knowing who’s in form. Unexpected things like a rain-affected match or injuries can hurt badly if you’re relying on the last few games (ask me how I know). And that's the crux of transfer efficiency. The entire thing is a balancing act of trying to save them till you know more but not too late where you have too much to use each game. There’s no rule or perfect answer for how many to use but a rough approach would be:
Slightly less transfers per game earlier on like 2 in the first third.
Then play the average amount mid-season so 2.3 in the middle third.
Slightly more aggressive towards the end so 2.6 in the last third.
Also remember you may need extra transfers around booster usage in order to play them to the fullest so leave some leeway for the big boosters. In past seasons, there was also a free transfer for bringing in an uncapped player, but I can’t confirm if this exists in 2026 until the next game. If it is, you should use it and bring an uncapped player almost every time. They’ll nearly always benefit you.
Finally, don’t panic if you’re behind in the leaderboard early. Some players climb the rankings quickly by using all 11 transfers and a booster each game and fall off later.
3. Planning Ahead
Waiting for the line up and toss to be announced, 30 minutes before the game starts is always going to be a step up on anyone who can’t. Don’t wait till then to make your team! Just make a team then check 30 mins before if anyone is injured or who’s batting first before making any replacements or maybe no changes. This can save you a consistent 20-50 points every time someone gets injured. Of course standard advice applies where spinners will play better on turning pitches, all-rounders can get more value and batsmen are better on flat pitches.
Planning ahead is one of the biggest edges you can have. You should know transfers are calculated based on the difference between your previous team and your current one. So if you:
Transfer Player A → B. Then change your mind and go B → C all before the match starts you don’t lose 2 transfers. It counts as 1.
This means you can adjust your team multiple times before the deadline without being penalised, so no need to stress if you’re an overthinker like me.
If the schedule is RCB vs LSG. KKR vs SRH. RCB vs DC. CSK vs MI. LSG vs KKR.
After each match, you’ll want to remove players of the team that has their match furthest away and replace them with players in upcoming games. After game 1 you need to make room for SRH vs KKR, and you know RCB is playing again soon but LSG isn’t. Replace the LSG players but keep the RCB players as you get 2 games with them for the 1 transfer before swapping them.
The best way to have your team at any time is to spread it evenly across the upcoming games, splitting it between the teams. For example you could do something along these lines:
3 players from the first game. 3 from the second. 3 from the third. 2 from the fourth.
The exact combination will depend on how many transfers you’re trying to spend in a game. When a team plays again quickly with just a couple other games in between you should favour those teams instead of splitting evenly. Have 3-4 from the team playing again soon and 1 or 0 from their opponent as you’re essentially getting 2 matches from that player for the 1 transfer you spent.
Also think ahead with boosters. Don’t include players from the match after a 2x if you know you’ll be using a wildcard after. It’s just an unnecessary waste. So just make sure your team structure fits your next planned move.

Do we have to use all our boosters before the playoffs? Or do they carry on to the playoffs as well? If so, would it be wise to save the big boosters like double or IW for the playoffs?
You can use boosters in the playoffs and it's a solid strategy as some team from the semi will play again. But you have to plan it well as you only had 10 transfers last year for the 3 games. The first playoff game is unlimited.
Free hit booster - what it means it will reset after booster. Will the team goes back to prior match. What could be best case to use in such condition
So if you use the Free Hit in the SRH vs LSG match you can make the best team possible no restrictions then for the next game it resets back to your RR vs GT team. Because of that I consider it a no consequences booster. You can play it whenever you want, but typically you want 2 batting heavy teams playing on a flat pitch like SRH vs CSK in Rajiv Gandhi stadium.
